Scotland Womens National Team Win Against Australia & Costa Rica

Scotlands’ Womens National Team have added two fine victories against Australia and Costa Rica respectively in April.

Australia 0 – 1 Scotland (7 April 2023)

BBC Report: “Scotland produced one of their best results under manager Pedro Martinez Losa as they defeated World Cup hosts Australia in London.

Nicola Docherty scored just her second goal for her country with a magnificent long-range drive off the post and into the top corner.

And Scotland were well worth their win with a string of further chances coming their way in a stirring performance.

Australia did hit the crossbar twice, but Scotland bravely held on.

And it will be a huge confidence booster before the Nations League and Euro 2025 qualifying campaigns, beating a side who have their eyes on winning the World Cup when it gets under way in July.”

Scotland 4 – 0 Costa Rica April 11 2023

BBC Report: “Scotland swept aside World Cup-bound Costa Rica as 17-year-old Emma Watson scored her first international goals after earning only her second cap.

Watson, handed her first start in Friday’s win over Australia, got the ball rolling after five minutes as she pounced on a Caroline Weir free-kick.

Claire Emslie helped steer in a Weir corner before the roles were reversed for the third – all before the break.

Watson completed the rout with a stunning strike.

It was a welcome hint of a brighter future on a night when Scotland were given a reminder of what might have been with a second victory in five days over a side who will be competing at this summer’s World Cup finals.

Scotland showed why they are 13 places above Costa Rica in the world rankings as the visitors head to Australia and New Zealand without a victory in seven outings.”

Scotland win Against Spain & Cyprus in Euro Qualifiers

Scotlands’ mens team have opened the 2024 European Championship Qualifiers with two home wins against Cyprus and Spain putting them (hopefully) in a strong position to qualify for the finals in Germany.

Scotland 2 – 0 Spain (Highlights)

BBC Report: “Sensational Scotland took a seismic leap in their bid to reach consecutive European Championships by stunning Spain in a heroic triumph.

Scott McTominay crashed in a deflected opener after just seven minutes, triggering an explosion of noise inside a charged Hampden Park.

Steve Clarke’s team rode their luck to stay ahead at the break, only for McTominay to repeat his earlier feat just after the restart to cause chaos in the stands as well as in the bamboozled Spanish defence.

Scotland, in their first competitive victory over Spain for 39 years, now top Group A – three points above the humbled Spaniards and five in front of a stuttering Norway.”

Steve Clarke had billed it as a must-win game against Group A’s lowest seeds, who ended the game with 10 men after a late red card for Nicholas Ioannou, and it was job done in that sense.”

Scotland 3 – 0 Cyprus (Highlights)

BBC Report: “Scott McTominay’s late double secured Scotland a comfortable winning start to their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign at home to Cyprus.

John McGinn’s close-range finish – the Aston Villa midfielder’s 16th goal for his country – was reward for a dominant first-half display.

Substitute McTominay eased increased nervousness around Hampden with a clinical 87th-minute finish.

And the Manchester United midfielder added his second moments later.

Steve Clarke had billed it as a must-win game against Group A’s lowest seeds, who ended the game with 10 men after a late red card for Nicholas Ioannou, and it was job done in that sense.”

Armenia 1-4 Scotland (Scottish Football Mens National Team)

BBC Scotland Report: “Scotland recovered from a rocky start to revive their Nations League hopes by cruising to victory against hosts Armenia who finished with nine men.

Vahan Bichakhchyan’s early opener exposed a nervous visiting defence.

Stuart Armstrong’s swift reply was against the run of play, but Arman Hovhannisyan was then shown a red card.

Armstrong supplied another fine finish seconds later and John McGinn and Che Adams added to home misery before Kamo Hovhannisyan was sent off late on.”

Watsonians Win FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series (10/06/22)

Report on this page is from Scottish Rugby Union Website: https://www.scottishrugby.org/fanzone/fosroc-super6-sprint-series-review-of-the-round-play-off-3

“The final FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series placings were determined this weekend when Watsonians hosted Stirling County in the title decider and Heriot’s hosted Boroughmuir Bears for fourth place.”

“With just over 10 minutes gone in game Watsonians were first to get on the scoresheet. Full-back Harry Patterson collected the ball that had been kicked down field. He manages to get the ball away to Matt Currie who off-loaded to Lomond MacPherson who galloped in for the opening try of the game, converted by Lee Millar.

On the half hour mark scrum-half Sean Kennedy ran in a score for Stirling County after Marcus Holden made a break with Logan Trotter in support who passed out to Kennedy to secure the try, Holden then added the extra two points on offer.

HALF-TIME: Watsonians Rugby 7-7 Stirling County

When Stirling were penalised for hands in the ruck, Millar opted to extend the hosts lead through a fairly straightforward penalty for a man of his experience.

County took the lead for the first time in the game with 46 minutes gone thanks to an Angus Fraser try and another on the 56th minute by Stevie Hamilton (both converted by Holden) gave the visitors an 11 point lead with 20 minutes to go.

On the hour mark Watsonians got the maul moving and hooker Cal Davies secured the ball down over the try line, with Millar adding the conversion.

With the clock gone 80, Watsonians replacement Jason Baggott plucked the ball out of thin air to run in an intercepted try to earn Watsonians not on a seventh consecutive win, but the title of FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series Winners. (Millar added the extra two points on offer too!)”
